Our history
In the wake of the Civil War, Johnstown began to grow and industrialize. Many families settled in the area, and as time went by, they migrated to the hilltops around the town. When the Great Flood of 1889 wiped out the valley below, many families fled to Brownstown to escape the deluge.
In 1906 a group of concerned citizens united to build a Catholic Church in Brownstown. In 1929 the current church was built is still in use today.
St. Michael’s is a warm and faith-filled Catholic parish located in the Brownstown neighborhood of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. United in the same mission as Our Mother of Sorrows, we invite you to experience the presence of Christ in a welcoming and steadfast community of believers.
