ARISE Together in Christ is a parish-centered process of spiritual renewal and evangelization. that invites people to develop a closer relationship with Christ, deepen their faith, grow in community, and reach out in service to others.
No matter where participants are on their faith journey, they are attracted to the warm sense of welcome provided by the small-group setting, and the opportunities to meet Jesus Christ in scripture and explore faith’s connection to daily life.

Week Four: Jesus, the Word Among Us

Encountering Christ from the perspective of St. John

This week, we see Jesus through the eyes of St. John. His Gospel is full of stories of people who witness Jesus as the  Messiah, from John the Baptist to Martha and Mary, whose profession of Jesus as the Christ leads to the resurrection of their brother. These are the stories of people who open their eyes and their hearts to Jesus - and truly 'see.' In believing that Jesus is the Son of God, they have life in His name.

  • John's Gospel includes many stories of people who have dramatic encounters with Jesus. Do we need to have a dramatic experience to encounter Jesus? Or can we encounter Him in subtle or gentle ways,  too?
  • How has your understanding and appreciation of Jesus changed over the years, especially in the four years since our parishes have asked Jesus to ignite us?
  • The Arise readings continually show God's love for all, without exception. Can we honestly say the same? If your answer is yes, do your actions back up your words? If your answer is no, what steps can you take to work toward love for all?

  • We are all called to be examples of God’s holiness. This week, touch someone with God’s love by committing some Random Acts of Holiness. They can be as simple as opening a door for someone, sharing an encouraging thought, donating to a local food pantry, listening without judging, or sending a text or calling someone you’ve been meaning to reach out to. Let’s fill our week with Random Acts of  Holiness.
  • Take the TryMinistrySunday brochure home and prayerfully reflect on risking and sharing your talents with others. Sign up online or at Mass next weekend.

  • Be a friendly face to those you meet. Smile!
  • Donate to a local food pantry
  • Do something kind or unexpected for a friend or co-worker
  • Clean out your closet and donate gently used items to organizations that can get them to those in need.
  • Pay someone a compliment
  • Be considerate to other drivers on the road.
  • Visit someone who is shut in or alone
  • Be a good listener without any judgment
  • Pray for someone who is seeking God’s comfort
  • Forgive someone for a past transgression.
