About the OMOS School
In other parts of the U.S., students and parents enjoy the benefits of “magnet” schools that draw children from wide areas, and often offer an educational experience that is special in some way. In the Johnstown area, we are fortunate to have a school that operates in many ways like these magnet schools: Our Mother of Sorrows School.
The power of the Our Mother of Sorrows School magnet is strong, cutting across different geographic and faith boundaries.
In fact, we draw from:- 6 different school districts: Conemaugh Township (Somerset County), Conemaugh Valley, Ferndale, Greater Johnstown, United and Westmont Hilltop
- 11 different faith traditions: Byzantine Catholic, Baptist, Episcopalian, Hindu, Jewish, Lutheran, Methodist, Muslim, Orthodox, Presbyterian and Roman Catholic
- 3 different counties: Cambria, Indiana and Somerset
Families from these diverse geographic and faith backgrounds have found that our school is more than just another school. It is a magnet for excellence. In fact, OMOS students consistently score in the top 10% of schools nationwide that use the Iowa Skills standardized test to assess student performance.
